Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then found multiple other marked cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say early analysis indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for tips.
A high-ranking official stated the incident left him stunned and had to be solved promptly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on individuals of migrant background in 2020.
