Tropical Storm Melissa is forecast to escalate to a uncommon highest-level cyclone as it turns towards the Caribbean island, causing dangerous rapid inundation and mudslides.

This weather system, which registered winds of up to 195 km/h as of 06:00 GMT, is presently veering north-west in the Caribbean region and is anticipated to make landfall by midweek, as reported by hurricane specialists.

Advisories of electricity outages and disruption to utilities have been issued as this storm generates up to thirty inches of rainfall and storm surges as high as thirteen feet above ground. "Take cover without delay," locals have been urged.

The cyclone is the 13th hurricane in the ongoing Atlantic hurricane season, which typically ends in the eleventh month.

Most Intense Cyclone Risk

A category five storm is the strongest type, with winds of at least 252 km/h.

Locals are being instructed to fortify their houses with sandbags and wooden boards, and to gather necessary supplies.

Warnings are also in effect for areas in the neighboring country such as the primary urban center, the neighboring country and the eastern part of Cuba, where Melissa is projected to bring comparable impacts by the middle portion of the coming week.
