Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid year, winning just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a setback at the American major.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in especial - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with his coach and his other coach, he has gradually improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

It is his initial trophy following the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface from spring of the previous year.

The win also indicates the Russian has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one various competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters together, so to get a title is particularly special," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I won when my child my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, featuring in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted some to question if his capacity to compete at the elite level was over.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an improved serve.

He recovered from a break down in the first set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the last five games to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his maiden tour victory, gained dominance to create a third set.

The opponent saved 4 initial opportunities in a close third set before the champion broke to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, he secured the title with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
