Around twenty-five thousand residences in southeastern Queensland were left experiencing outages on the start of the week after powerful weather events swept through the state, generating powerful gusts reaching 109km/h.

Large Frozen Precipitation and Widespread Destruction

Homeowners reported substantial frozen pellets measuring up to seven centimeters in some areas. Meteorological experts announced that different parts across Queensland had been hit with substantial ice precipitation.

State Emergency Services handled nearly 600 calls for help across the area, primarily for property damage but also for collapsed vegetation and inundation.

At one point on yesterday, more than 28,000 electricity consumers in Victoria were without power.

Meteorological Predictions

Damp conditions were predicted to continue along significant areas of eastern Queensland this week as a atmospheric system continued to attract humidity against the coast.

Tuesday was predicted as the heaviest precipitation period, with ongoing thunderstorm potential predicted across different parts of both regions.

Health Warning

Medical authorities alerted that there was an higher risk of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the northern rural areas, particularly given the current weather patterns.
